Exploring the massive bank known as the Counting House in Baldur's Gate 3 leads players to some of the most lucrative treasures in Act Three. Among these, High Security Vault 9 contains valuable gear that can significantly boost a character's stealth and initiative capabilities. Locating and opening this specific vault requires navigating through security checks, combat encounters, and key recovery methods.

Where to Find High Security Vault 9

High Security Vault 9 is situated in the deepest level of the Counting House, located in the southern part of the Lower City. To reach this subterranean area, adventurers must secure a bank pass from Head Clerk Meadhoney or bypass security guards. After descending into the main vault room behind the large puzzle door, Vault 9 can be found positioned at the very back of the chamber.

How to Obtain the High Security Vault 9 Key

Acquiring the key for Vault 9 involves interacting with Head Banker Rakath Glitterbeard following a major combat encounter inside the vault chamber. After defeating the infiltrators, Rakath will request your assistance in recovering stolen bank funds. If you successfully return the stolen gold to Rakath, he rewards you with gold and the official High Security Vault 9 Key. Alternatively, rogue-leaning players can choose to pickpocket the key directly from Rakath's inventory.

Bypassing the Lock via Lockpicking

Players who do not wish to complete Rakath's quest or pickpocket him can still gain access using Sleight of Hand skills. High Security Vault 9 features a lockpick Difficulty Class (DC) of 25, requiring a skilled rogue like Astarion. Utilizing Thieves' Tools alongside bonuses from Guidance or dexterity-boosting gear makes picking this lock much easier. Fortunately, bank guards do not automatically turn hostile if they see you lockpicking the high security safes.

What Rewards Are Inside Vault 9

Opening High Security Vault 9 yields some of the best light armor available in the endgame. Inside the chest, players will discover the Elegant Studded Leather armor. This rare piece offers an Armour Class of 14, grants a +2 bonus to Initiative, provides Advantage on Stealth checks, and allows the wearer to cast the Shield spell. These stats make it an ideal reward for stealthy characters or dexterity-based spellcasters needing extra protection in battle.
